Tradewinds Power Purchase Agreement

It is the intent of the members of the Protect O‘okala Ad Hoc Steering Committee, on behalf of the O‘okala community, to vigorously seek recourse during the governmental permitting process (Tradewinds will need at least 17 permits under governmental oversight) and with all organizations that are considering doing business with Tradewinds. Currently, Tradewinds is in negotiations with the local power company, HECO, on a Power Purchase Agreement for the excess power that will be generated by the power plant. Please find attached here a letter from the steering committee to T. Michael May, president of HECO, and May's response. We find it very sad that so many are quick to justify sacrificing our community's quality of life in the interest of economic gain. This is a very big island with lots of land, and if alternative energy is needed, there must be more appropriate sites available for power plants than any residential community. For more on the power plant component of Tradewinds' venture, see the entry here on this website entitled "It's all about the Power Plant."
